Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 and 5.8 official

Samsung has officially revealed the Galaxy Mega, its latest sizable smartphone, with a choice of 5.8- or whopping 6.3-inch screen sizes as the lines between phones and small tablets continue to blur. Packing a 1.7GHz dualcore chip running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on the Galaxy Mega 6.3 (or a slightly slower 1.4GHz dualcore on the Galaxy Mega 5.8), the new handsets each have 8-megapixel main cameras and up to 64GB of storage support.

Samsung’s newest smartphone is about to be announced later this month, most likely the Galaxy S IV, and rumors have obviously been flying off the walls as of late. We already saw some of what Samsung was cooking up at Mobile World Congress earlier this week, but it looks like the company will be pulling the “one last thing” trick come March 14.

Judge Cuts $450M From Apple’s $1B Damages Decision Against Samsung, Orders Second Trial

Apple’s landmark $1 billion damages award over Samsung has been partially vacated by presiding judge Lucy Koh, FOSS Patents reports. The judge has orders just north of $450 million be struck from the $1 billion total, an amount which relates to 14 Samsung products involved in the case, pending a new trial to determine appropriate damages for those specific devices.

Samsung N350 throws LTE and HSPA+ into an intriguing new netbook proposition

Yeah, we thought netbooks were old news too, but if they all start strapping up with the latest in 4G connectivity, we might have to give them another look. The Samsung N350 is just such a machine, with dual-mode LTE and HSPA+ built in. You won't be surprised that almost everything else is par for the affordable laptop market course: a dual-core Atom N550 CPU, that boilerplate 1,024 x 600 resolution on a 10.1-inch matte screen, 250GB of storage, 1GB of DDR3 RAM, a multicard reader, and a trifecta of USB ports. The basic wireless options are keeping up with modernity, however, with 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0 on board, both of which are nice to see. The 3-cell battery should last up to 6.7 hours and the whole package is expected to retail for €429 ($553) in Germany this autumn. You can probably expect a rebadge under the Go label for the US and a relatively swift launch over here as well.

Samsung's new Wireless USB chipset enables HD streaming with less power

It's a beautiful combination, really -- lower power consumption, and support for high bandwidth applications. That marriage is evident in Samsung's newest Wireless USB chipset, which was built around Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology and designed to enable high-def streaming between a mobile host device and a tethered device for viewing. According to Sammy, the two-chip solution will be aimed at cameras, camcorders, TVs, PCs, tablets, beam projectors, portable HDDs, Blu-ray players and handsets, and given that it can handle a theoretical high of 480Mbps with an average power consumption of less than 300mW, even the weakest smartphone battery should be able to stream at least a single episode of Family Guy to the tele. Mum's the word on who all will be lining up to adopt this stuff, but since it's slated to hit mass production in Q4, we'd say those details should be worked out right around CES 2011.

Samsung Galaxy S Preview

Just because the US has gone gaming crazy these past couple of days doesn't mean the smartphone world has stopped turning. Samsung trotted out its Galaxy S handset last night in London, and we were naturally there to try and glean a better understanding of where this 4-inch Android 2.1 device fits in our wishlist hierarchy. It's quite the stat sheet stuffer, as we're sure you're aware, and it strikes an alluring figure for those looking to get on the true do-it-all smartphone bandwagon.

Samsung SE-S084D : world's thinnest external DVD drive, SH-B123 the fastest Blu-ray drive

At an intimate press conference yesterday, Samsung unveiled its newest SE-S084 external DVD as well as its 12x SH-B123 Blu-ray drives. The former is pretty much a standard external 24x CD-ROM / 8x DVD-ROM peripheral, except it's only 17mm thick. Samsung is claiming it's the world's thinnest. At .5 pounds it was incredibly light in hand -- we actually thought the model on display was a dummy at first. Available in seven colors that apparently match Samsung's netbook line up, the drive should be available just about now for $69.99.

On the total opposite end is Samsung's new 12x SH-B123, which it's claiming to be the world's fastest BD-ROM/DVD writer. The player packs DVD up-scaling technology and uses an aerodynamic design for lowering acoustic spinning noise. There's no pricing details on the SH-B123 yet though it should hit stores in July.

Samsung release HDTV with Skype

Samsung has officially finally come out with their new 7000 and 8000 series HDTVs with Skype. Skype will be offered on the embedded Samsung Apps service.
Users will be able to sign in or create accounts with their TV remote controls and make video calls right from the comfort of a living room couch. Video will be recorded with the new attached HD Web Video Cameras.

Samsung to Release transparent screen laptop in 12 months

It was first unveiled at CES and it seems Samsung is really taking a shot at it. Using OLED technology, the laptop has an almost absolutely transparent screen, making it possible to see invariably anything behind the screen. Well, we're in a crazy world and who knows whether transparent desktops are coming too.
